Twickenham South Stand
Carillion has been instrumental in the redevelopment of one of the foremost sporting arenas in the country and the home of English rugby – Twickenham. The final phase of the project, the new South stand, provides nearly 19,000 seats in three tiers increasing the stadium capacity from 75,000 to around 82,000. The structure, seated on 1,200 bored piles, has a polycarbonate sheeting roof, supported by structural steel trusses projecting almost 40 metres covering all spectators. To the rear of the stand is a separate commercial building which houses a sports club, conference, banqueting and hospitality facilities and a 156 bedroom hotel. Our involvement with Twickenham has now spanned over 10 years when we began work on the redevelopment of the North stand, which was followed by the re-build of the East and West stands. | |
