Carillion joint venture secures £85 million maintenance contract for Highways Agency

Carillion, the leading UK support services, Public Private Partnership project and construction company, has secured a five-year Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) contract for the Highways Agency with its joint venture partner, WSP, worth £85 million.

The contract is for the maintenance of all motorways and trunk roads in Area 8 covering Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire with Milton Keynes and Luton Unitary authorities.

John McDonough, Carillion's chief executive said: "We are committed to supporting the Highways Agency in its mission to provide safe roads and reliable journeys, whilst delivering continual improvement and substantial efficiency gains.

"It is testament to this strong working relationship that Carillion has provided road maintenance services in Area 8 for the past 10 years. We are therefore delighted to have secured the new MAC contract, which means we will continue to provide road maintenance services in this area for a minimum of five years."

The contract, due to start in September 2008, will run until September 2013 with the potential for two, one-year extensions through to 2015.

Carillion has a 60 per cent interest in the joint venture and WSP holds the remaining 40 per cent.

The Northamptonshire element of Area 8 will move to Area 7 in June 2009.
