Carillion's business in Oman secures prestigious £275m Parliament project

Carillion's business in Oman, Carillion Alawi, has secured a prestigious contract to build the Majlis, a new Parliament building in the centre of Muscat, with an estimated construction value of £275m.

The contract includes the construction of a new building to house the Majlis Oman, Majlis A'shura and Majlis A'ddowla, together with VIP areas, an Information Centre, Library, offices and other support facilities.

Work will start immediately and will be carried out in two phases, with the Majlis Oman completed by September 2011 and the remaining works by September 2012.

Commenting on the contract award, Carillion chief executive, John McDonough said: "Carillion Alawi has been delivering high-quality projects in Oman for more than 40 years. Carillion Alawi built the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the largest in Oman, and is currently working on a number of major projects, including the Royal Opera House for the Royal Court Affairs and the Oman Botanic Gardens for the Diwan of the Royal Court.

"We are delighted to have been awarded a further prestigious contract and look forward to building on the close working relationship we have established with the Royal Court Affairs to deliver this latest landmark project."
